Iron — placeholder image

Iron is the base class of the Ferrous Metal tree and one of the most universally distributed minerals in Star Wars Galaxies. Every crafter starts here: artisans surveying their first concentration patches almost always find an Iron spawn somewhere in the local biome, and the resource feeds the earliest weaponsmith and armorsmith schematics.

What it is

Iron is a Ferrous Metal — meaning it carries the structural stat profile (Overall Quality, Conductivity, Decay Resistance, Heat Resistance, Shock Resistance, Malleability) but not the biological or energy stats. Sub-classes such as Steel and its specialized sub-types (Aluminum Steel, Kelsh, Kiirium) inherit Iron’s lineage and tighten the stat ranges toward higher-performing crafting inputs.

Where to find it

Iron spawns on almost every habitable planet — Corellia, Dantooine, Naboo, Rori, Talus, Tatooine, Yavin IV, Lok, and Dathomir all typically have at least one Iron spawn active at any time. Specific sub-classes rotate per server and per spawn cycle, so harvester placement is a continuous game of “what’s up right now.”

Why crafters care

By itself Iron is rarely the hero input — most weaponsmith and armorsmith recipes will prefer a Steel sub-class for higher Malleability or a non-ferrous metal for Conductivity. But Iron is ubiquitous enough that it’s the default filler when a recipe just needs Ferrous Metal and the stat weights are forgiving. Newer crafters in the artisan and weaponsmith trees lean heavily on it before they have the survey range to chase rarer spawns.

Typical uses

  • Low-tier weaponsmith barrel and trigger components
  • Entry-level armorsmith plating
  • Filler input on intermediate schematics
  • Structural craft and basic engineering subcomponents
