Artisan — placeholder image

Artisan is the crafting starter — every player who wants to make goods in Star Wars Galaxies begins here. The profession teaches the universal crafting toolkit (surveying for resources, sampling them, running schematics through a crafting tool, experimenting for higher quality) and serves as the prerequisite for nearly every elite crafter in the game.

Role

The Artisan’s job is to learn how the SWG economy actually works: surveying for resource concentrations, harvesting samples by hand, placing personal harvesters once the player has saved enough credits, running basic schematics, and using experimentation to push finished goods up the quality curve. Master Artisans typically produce the low-tier consumer goods (food, clothing, basic weapons, generic tools) that every new player needs, while accumulating capital to specialize.

Skill tree highlights

The Artisan tree splits into four branches, each of which feeds into one or more elite professions:

  • Engineering — components, generic items, crafting stations. Feeds into Architect (structures), Weaponsmith, Droid Engineer, and Shipwright.
  • Domestic Arts — basic food, drink, and clothing. Feeds into Chef and Tailor.
  • Surveying — resource location, survey-range and concentration bonuses, harvester placement. Universal underlay for all crafters.
  • Business / Merchant — vendor management, advertising, and shop signage that feeds the Merchant line.

Mastery requires 77 skill points and around 91,000 XP in each of General Crafting, Surveying, and Domestic Arts.

Best trained at

Artisan trainers live in every major starport: Mos Eisley, Bestine, and Mos Espa on Tatooine; Coronet, Tyrena, and Kor Vella on Corellia; Theed, Keren, Moenia, and Kaadara on Naboo; Dearic and Nashal on Talus; Narmle and Restuss on Rori. Crafting stations and harvester demos at the trainer plaza help new crafters learn the workflow.
