Tauntaun Mount

The Tauntaun is the snow-adapted reptomammal of Hoth — the same shaggy, two-legged lizard Han Solo and Luke Skywalker ride in the opening sequence of The Empire Strikes Back. In SWG, the Hoth tauntaun is one of the most iconic and most-farmed trophy mounts in the game.

Role in the galaxy

Unlike the Bantha Mount or Dewback Mount, the Tauntaun is not a tamed creature — players cannot run a wild herd because there is no planetary Hoth POI in SWG. Hoth itself exists only as the Battle of Echo Base heroic instance, so the only way to obtain the mount is through that heroic’s reward drop table. This rarity — combined with the silhouette’s instant film recognition — makes the Tauntaun the single most-desired status mount among late-game players, and the reason groups continue farming Echo Base on lockout long after they no longer need the tokens.

How to obtain

The Tauntaun is a rotating headline drop from the Battle of Echo Base heroic on a low drop rate. Groups complete the instance through every faction-locked phase — North Field, Shield Generator, Transport Evacuation, Commander fight — and roll for the drop on the chest. Required combat level is 90, the entire group must be declared for the same faction (either Rebel or Imperial), and the recommended group size is eight. Once obtained, the mount summons and rides like any other player mount.
